Prized Possession

Ten days of my entire household having the stomach bug as produced many messy clean ups. On top of it, we are puppy sitting for a not so house broken dog. I'll spare you the gross details, but this particular incident takes the cake and I had to share it.

My new kitchen not only makes me happy but Camryn has gotten much enjoyment out of it as well. Where it provides me with an abundance of storage and working space, Camryn finds places to stash her toys and even a new hiding spot.

The corner cabinet of our island is a curio case. I haven't figured out exactly what pieces I want to showcase yet, so it's currently empty. Well it didn't take Camryn long to figure out it was just her size. She went from simply putting stuff in it to having snacks and inviting her friends over too!

But today, she took it to a whole new level. Look closely:

Yep...now its a self contained living space complete with bathroom (plumbing not included)!!! Wasn't quite what I had in mind when I said I wanted to showcase my prized possessions! You can bet your bottom dollar the shelves are now in place!

Germs

I realize its been a week since my last post but sadly I've had nothing to post! The day after Dylan's pretzel art he got sick. Maybe that's why he was playing with his food rather than eating it!!!

He has had practically every symptom. It started with an extremely high fever, followed by a little vomiting. Then it was low energy and no appetite for a few days accompanied by a cough and runny nose. We thought we were on the mend on Monday so I sent him to school only to have the nurse call me at 10:00. His teacher knew he wasn't himself by his low energy and lack of desire to eat his snack.

I picked him up and went straight to the doctors. They checked for ear infections, strep throat, listened for pneumonia and weren't too concerned about mono. So I left with no more information then what I started with. Dylan was fighting some sort of virus and he needed plenty of fluid and rest.

I kept him home from school again today for some added rest. His energy is better and is appetite seems to getting back to normal. Hopefully, he can make it to school tomorrow....because now I don't feel so hot and mom's don't get sick days!!!

Pretzel Art

It was a beautiful afternoon to jump on the trampoline. We didn't even want to go inside for our after school snack. So we had a picnic on the trampoline instead. And rather then eating his pretzel sticks, this is what Dylan did with his:

Getting our jiggles out

Ahhh...fresh air!!! Today after school we actually played outside. We jumped on the trampoline, rode bikes and created sidewalk chalk masterpieces!! The snow, bitter cold wind and rain have been inhibiting us from partaking in our favorite activities. But not today!!! My yard may be a sopping wet mess but the snow is gone!!! Even Callie was running around like a puppy again. It's amazing how much happier we all are when we can exert some energy outdoors! It was the perfect start to a fabulous weekend ahead. I even saw a glimpse of Spring....my tulips are coming up!

Not for the queasy

I sprang from the couch to the sound of Dylan's dinner hitting his bedroom floor! The smell hit me as soon as I reached the top of the stairs. I knew it would just make a bigger mess if I tried to move him to the bathroom, so I just had to wait for the vomitting to stop. I wanted to sit down next to him and rub his back but I felt my own dinner rising in my throat. Luckily, the stomach bug reared it's ugly head on my husband's night off. He hurried up behind me and tackled the sheets and carpet. I took Dylan in the bathroom to clean him off.

He had stopped vomiting but his pajamas were covered. I couldn't hold back the dry heaves as I strategically lifted them over his head. He looked at me with his sick, sad eyes and asked why I was gagging. I wish I was one of those mothers who was impervious to her child's bodily functions, but in fact I'm quite the opposite.

I carried a newly dressed and refreshly brushed (teeth that is) Dylan into our bed and laid down next to him. Away from the stentch I was able to soothe my sick child back to sleep!

I had already made the decision to keep him out of school, so we let him sleep in. I have such fond memories of sick days home from school when I was a kid. My mom would set me up on the couch in front of the TV for the entire day. She would wait on me hand and foot. Supplying me with unlimited amounts of Saltines and Gingerale through a straw. I indulged in The Price is Right and other afternoon television that I missed while at school. I would spend an enjoyable day dozing in and out of sleep, with the smell of chicken broth and pastina cooking on the stove.

So in an effort to redeem myself from last night, I made Dylan's sick day just as enjoyable. He had no limit to the amount of TV he was allowed to watch. I was at his beckon call. At the ready with board games when he needed a break from TV. Food, drink and books delivered to his perch on the couch.

So it's no wonder at 7:00 tonight, his stomach is suddenly bothering him again and he doesn't think he'll be able to make it to school tomorrow!!! I didn't want to erase all my efforts of the day by telling him sick days are in fact only a day unless accompanied by a doctors visit. But I have a feeling I'm not going to be at the top of his list in the morning!
