Ski Weekend

Although it was a day later than we had thought, it was worth the wait!

We stopped at a childrens' museum on the drive up.

The rest of the vacation was spent skiing, sliding and swimming!

My brain is shot

I had been running around all day yesterday getting ready for our ski weekend. I didn't sit down for one second until about 10:30pm to print out our trip confirmation.

Here is a list of all the things I did to prepare:

- After swim class, Camryn and I did groceries
- 5 loads of laundry (folded and put away)
- Loaded the dishwasher: which entailed 3 trips up from the basement where the dishes need to be rinsed off in our only working sink (that's another story for another day!)and then loaded into the dishwasher
- Made all the food to bring on our trip (banana blueberry muffins, chili, cornbread, chicken pot pie)
- Packed all our clothes (way more than we will even wear)
- Packed all our ski equipment and clothing
- Packed all the other food we would bring (it's the only thing that keeps Camryn occupied in the ski lodge)
- Unloaded the dishwasher
- Strategically packed up the car

So you can imagine my surprise and frustration when I sat down at 10:30pm to find out that our reservation was not for today but in fact for tomorrow!!!

Valentine Mishaps

The Martha Stewart in my really comes out around Valentine's Day. I don't know why I can't bring myself to just purchase store bought ones at the store that only require Dylan to sign his name. But every year I have to make a week long project out of constructing our own. Thanks to all the projects he does at school, Dylan was able to do most of these himself. Cutting out the paper was a synch, he is a pro at signing his name and he eagerly manned the glue gun!

These are the rocket ships he chose this year:

I kept them in the playroom where we were working on them thinking nothing of it. But forgot what a chocoholic Camryn is. After a suspiciously long stretch of quietness, I went looking for her. Only to find all the Hershey's kisses ripped off Dylan's valentines and Camryn hiding in the toy closet with the evidence smeared all over her face!! Luckily Dylan was at school and I was able to fix them before he was any the wiser.

In addition to his valentines, I volunteered to bake a snack for his party at school. So I enlisted the best bakers I know. Not only did they snitch more M&M's then went into the bars we were baking, but Camryn used a little too much gusto when it came time to mix the dry ingredients into the wet ones!

My favorite part about this Hallmark holiday though, is now Dylan makes me valentine's at school! And this year's will be hard to beat!

Of course it made me tear up but the funny thing is, Dylan now looks for that to gauge how much I like his projects!!

I think I'll take a moment

to celebrate my age. The ending of an era, the turning of a page. (Tim McGraw)

The big 3-0 is less than a week away and I'm actually excited!!! My 20's were a huge decade for me. I was seriously busy! Here is a list of all the things I accomplished in my 20's:

* Graduated college
* Started a career
* Got a dog
* Bought a house
* Got married
* had a baby
* gave up my career
* had another baby
* endured 5 years of parenting

I feel like 30 supports my stage of life better than the 20's. I sometimes feel extremely younger than some of the other moms I encounter at Dylan's school. I've been probed with questions that would reveal my true age without them directly asking me. So I'm embracing 30!! I'm going to say things like: "Well when I was in my 20's..." just so people know I'm older, more knowledgeable and more experienced!

The way I look at it, my 20's produced some big events and changes in my life. My 30's are going to be spent enjoying all those things!

7) Don't play with snotty faced kids, it makes mommy gag

6) Don't spit the bath water at your sister, you just peed in it

5) I don't know what happens when I get to 3 but you're not going to like it

4) Stop finger painting with your yogurt on the TV

3) Sharing does not apply to mommy's ice cream

2) Yes, you need to wear underwear to wrestling practice

1) Because I said so!!!

New addition

According to Camryn, we have a new addition to the family! Her name is sister, only Camryn can see her and she fits in the palm of her hand. Sister usually only comes out when Dylan is at school but has become a common playmate.

Sister accompanies us to the grocery store and has to sit in the front of the cart, allowing Camryn no other option than to walk. She of course needs to be buckled into a car seat, luckily Dylan's is empty. When eating lunch at Dad's restaurant we have to pull up a highchair for her to sit in. She has even introduced her to both grandmas and incorporates her into their play.

I felt a little guilty at first that she so badly wants a sister, something we can no longer give her. But upon listening in our her conversations with sister, I'm starting to think she just wants someone smaller than her. She treats sister more like a daughter. Most of the time in a nurturing, mothering way. But I've started to hear some of my own words come out of her mouth! When sister does something wrong: "No, it's too late" or "that was your last chance." When sister asks for something, "Hold on a sec!" And my favorite, when it's time for sister to go to bed, "Stay in your bed or I'll shut the door!"

They say that kids who have imaginary friends grow up to be geniuses! I'm gonna go with Dylan's assessment on this one, "Camryn, sister is just an air person!"
